What?
My friend Jake sent me a link to a prototype lamp that eats bugs. Yes, it eats bugs, and then it turns them into electricity. The lamp has a shade with many perforations that act to attract flies and moths – the bugs fly in, but they can’t fly out – and once the bugs die (or “expire” if you will), they fall into the bottom part of the microbial fuel cell that’s at the bottom of the shade. When the bugs fall into the cell, they generate electricity that powers the LEDs shining up into the shade, which are activated when the house lights get turned off.
Let’s review:
– a lamp
– LED
– eats bugs for electricity
Cool.
