Useless Lamps

The video above is of spanish designer Jorge Mañes’ new collection for the Madrid Design Fair, starting this Friday and runs to March 31st.  Jorge’s series, called “Useless Lamps,” is a statement about longevity expectations in designing products.  “Useless Lamps” is a unique project, because it’s all made of ice – well, the diffusers are all made of ice.  The concept is to show a product that is designed to disappear – obviously once the lamps are turned on, the ice melts over time, and the project really no longer exists in its designed form.

Jorge is quoted regarding the design – “The same light that gives it life is slowly depleting its existence.”
